Hi Dan,

Balance???? Blah!! It's commentary...opinion/editorial style.

I get a bit exasperated when reportage contains clear personal opinion and utterly miffed when op-ed is rendered sterile by some PC notion of balance. (although I like fairness to creep in somewhere :)

Stick with what you're doing, matey; these are very scary socio-political times that will have far-reaching effects one way or another.

Eric Arthur Blair is convulsing in his grave, I suspect.

Cheers, Gayle

Gayle - I think you're right that 'aloof' was the wrong choice of word for Obama, and you provide two better ones. He still managed to control the occasion - at one point when Brokaw was grumbling about the discussion getting out of shape he told him "you're doing fine, Tom". He asserted himself just enough to seem in control of the situation, without ever appearing threatening or over-bearing.

It's great that you love the 'tweet-up' format. It's a lot of fun filtering through the election feed while events like these are going on, and i bookmark about ten times the number of tweets I use. I then look at the points I'm interested in picking up in, and look for themese to emerge. Mostly I just try to pick the funniest ones, and in that respect I'm standing on the shoulders of giants. At least they're clearly attributed, I guess.

In terms of the commentary itself, as you'll have seen I'm not the slightest bit interested in developing a balanced or bi-partisan position. On the contrary, my powerful contempt for McCain, his campaign, the GOP, and everything these right-wing, survival of the fittest shitheads stand for is one of the things that compels me to get of my proverbial arse and blog about it in the first place.

Another goodie!! (Athough I was intrigued that you found Obama "aloof" - I felt him restrained at worst, composed at best)

I really love this blending of briskly written tweets with the more fulsome & considered op-ed style of commentary...... it adds another level of interest & edge. Yay!!
